Gloucester's Leon Lloyd has been forced to retire from the game due to a knee injury. The 30 year old former England player has taken the advice of the specialists he has been seeing and decided to stop playing for medical reasons. The former Leicester Tiger is said to be distraught at the news.
The injury occurred in the Heineken Cup when Gloucester were playing against the Ospreys and has only played in one game since in which he limped from the field. Lloyd had only been at Gloucester for 1 year and said: "I am distraught. It was only yesterday that I found out that it was all over so it hasn't really sunk in yet. Although I'm bitterly disappointed I think I'll look back on my career and feel incredibly fortunate to have played alongside some truly great players. I won 12 trophies at Leicester. There was a 5 year period when we won everything there was to win...... and I count myself lucky to have been a part of that."
