Congratulations to Dave Pearson, (an ex-player at Seghill and now one of the world's top referees). He has been selected as one of the ten referees for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, which begins in September. It is just reward for Dave, for his excellent refereeing throughout the years.
Dave started his rugby career as a colts player with Seghill, playing in one of the most successful colts sides of the eighties ( only 1 defeat in 2 seasons, and county cup winners).
Following his demise from the clubs First team, Dave chose to take the refereeing path, and he has not looked back since.
He became a professional referee in 2002, and in his first Premiership match he sinbinned the then England captain Martin Johnson for a punch on Rob Russell. He took charge of his first international match when Argentina faced Japan on April 23, 2005 but refereeing at the World Cup will be the highlight of his career so far.
Everyone at Seghill rugby Club would like to wish Dave Good Luck, and if England dont make the final (which of course we all hope they will), we hope Dave gets chosen to referee the game.
