Southwold travelled to Chemlsford 7th March, hoping to make this their 10th win in a row including two walkovers in the RFUW SE3 league.Chemlsford welcomed Southwold Swallows to a cold afternoon at Writtle College, both teams needing a win to stand any chance of winning the league. Both teams set out to a do or die battle from the beginning.

From kick off both teams showed some outstanding defence, with Amy Gregory and Claire Phelps making some superb tackles which unsettled the home team. Southwold first try came when another scrum, lead by the front row of the long awaited return of Sarah Doddington at loose head, Elissa Cox hooking and Sally Turner playing tight head. They dominated the scrum with a number 8 pick up with a inside pass to our Scottish braveheart Laura Mac Donald and quick ball to winger Nina Roe. Only to get tackled 2 meters from the try line, this is when the well practiced rucking came into play with Bev Whyte at 8 powering over the try line.

This spurred on the Swallows upping the pressure, Chemlsford hadn't given up yet. A collapsed maul saw Amy Gregory at 10 come off with nasty shoulder injury meaning the squad had to be rearranged. New to the team Carolina Bäckström, flanking and Claire Phelps moving to fly half. Half time score 5-0

The second half began with the Swallows upping the pressure, resulting in Chemlsford making errors in their passes. In the Chemlsford 22, a big scrum saw Bev Whyte take a quick ball make process with great support play from Michaela Scarle and Karen Fletcher. A long awaited return to the team Kim Shrubsall having arranged childcare and changed work shifts played her heart out, with a great line of running got the try the Swallows much needed. Which completed the scoring for the afternoon. Final score 10 - 0

Despite the score the game was anyones till the final whistle, both teams wanting a win so badly. With players taking up new positions they played as a team with great support play, rucking and mauling they got the result they so badly wanted. This season results could not have been possible without the enormous commitment and faith new coach Mike Hume has had in the Ladies and sheer determination from the whole team. Looking to extend their unbeaten league run, with only two away games remaining - Thames Toucanettes 21st March and Peterborough 11th April. The team are starting to dream of an unbeaten league season.
